SF BALLET SCHOOL
becoming a professional dancer begins here
The San Francisco Ballet School offers a challenging curriculum, taught by faculty members drawn from the ranks of San Francisco Ballet and companies around the world. The School benefits from its close relationship with the Company. In fact, the School is a fundamental part of the institution—more than 65% of the Company’s dancers are trained in SF Ballet School. We emphasize strong classical technique, a flow of movement and athleticism that suggests a sense of energy, freedom, and joy. This style—which reflects the kind of dancing favored by SF Ballet—adapts to meet the demands of any choreographer, any company, and any type of movement.
Under the combined leadership of SF Ballet School Director Patrick Armand and Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson, the School has a dual mission: to train classical ballet dancers capable of joining the ranks of SF Ballet and other world-renouned companies; and to offer young children and adults in the Bay Area an introduction to ballet and the joy of moving to music.
This comprehensive program provides the experience necessary to ease the transition from student to professional dancer, all while offering personal attention in a close, nurturing environment.
CLASS WITH COMMUNITY
At SF Ballet, we are honored to work with a diverse group of community dance partners, both locally and around the world. Class with Community is a program designed for SF Ballet to share the joy of dance with the widest possible audiences while also striving to further our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Each Class with Community will feature the voice, perspective, and mission of our new or long-term community partners on SF Ballet’s social media, as well as through open ballet classes taught by SF Ballet School faculty.
Community Scholarship Program
Partnering with the SF Unified School District, we create opportunities for local elementary school students to receive a free year of ballet classes at SF Ballet School.
