San Francisco Ballet is regularly reviewing all aspects of the War Memorial Opera House experience to ensure that audiences, artists, and staff members are able to safely return to experience live, in-person performances by the Ballet with confidence. Health and safety are our priority, and we are working in consultation with medical and public health experts to closely follow guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control, the State of California, and the City and County of San Francisco.

We are also working with The War Memorial Opera House and SF Opera to create a clear set of guidelines for the same experience. With this evolving landscape, our protocols may change before our return to the Opera House in December but rest assured that the safety of our audiences, artists, and employees is our number one priority.

All ventilation systems in the War Memorial Opera House are MERV-13, which meet the CDC’s guidelines.

Currently, all patrons will be required to wear a mask, regardless of age. Masks with a valve, gaiters, scarves, etc are not permitted. Audience members who fail to follow the Front of House safety protocols will be promptly removed from the performance venue.

Proof of Vaccination

Updated 9/29: Per San Francisco city guidelines, San Francisco Ballet will require all patrons aged 12 and older to show proof of full vaccination* to attend performances or events at the War Memorial Opera House or at 455 Franklin Street. Patrons will also be required to show a photo ID alongside proof of vaccination to enter. Patrons can show either paper or electronic documentation (including a photo of the card).

Per the health order from San Francisco Department of Public Health, children under 12 years of age must provide a negative COVID-19 test result (either PCR or antigen test) taken within 48 hours of the start time of the event or performance they are attending at the War Memorial Opera House or 455 Franklin Street.

*Per the Center for Disease Control (CDC), a person is considered fully vaccinated greater than or equal to two weeks after completion of a two-dose mRNA series or single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Enhanced Cleaning

Enhanced cleaning practices have been put into place, and we’ve hired extra cleaning staff.

Hand Sanitizer Stations

Hand Sanitizer stations are plentiful and will be available at each level of the War Memorial Opera House.

Employee Safety

Our front-of-house and backstage staff will take part in rigorous safety training and will be required to show proof of vaccination to work at the War Memorial Opera House. All front-of-house staff will also be required to wear masks.

We anticipate offering both digital and printed tickets to all our performances. For patrons hoping for a touchless experience, please select electronic or print-at-home tickets during the checkout process. We are committed to being flexible should you be unable to attend an event, or if an event needs to be rescheduled or canceled.

Social Distancing

We are hopeful that by Nutcracker in December and the start of our season in February, our audiences will be vaccinated. Currently, vaccinated individuals sitting together do not require social distancing. As always, subscribers will have first choice at seating areas should we need to adopt a zoned seating approach.
